My Big Adventure, Part I: Saturday

Well, I started off by going to the airport (Heathrow, Terminal 1). I'm much more used to dropping people off and then going home, so it was a bit weird checking in my baggage.

I got my boarding pass, went and had a coffee, and then went through the departures area.

Eventually I got on the plane, and was disappointed that they don't give you peanuts any more! They used to, but it's been a long time since I've been on a plane - I suppose things have to change sometimes. The food was ok (some crackers, cheese, a warm bready-cheesy thing, a tiny cake). Another change though: no soggy lettuce with your meal.

The plane landed on time, and everyone filed off the plane and into the airport. It seemed to be very big and full of space, not at all like Heathrow. We all went through, collected our baggage, and made our way outside. I found the Flybus (which takes people from the airport to their hotel), paid my ISK 1100, and got on.

The bus took us from Keflavik Airport to the BSI terminal in Reykjavík, which gave us all a chance to see what Iceland looks like. All the passengers were separated onto 2 buses, depending on where they were staying, and we were driven around to the different hotels and guesthouses, giving us a chance to see a bit of Reykjavík on the way round.

I was delivered to my hotel, the Hotel Vik, and went and checked in. I also collected various leaflets to help me work out what I was going to do and when. I was in room 207, so I took my luggage upstairs and found my room.

My room was really big, with a small kitchen area, an en suite shower room, and a seating area:

I sat down, and looked through the various guides I had collected. I also took a picture of the view from my bed:

Eventually, I decided to try and find something to eat, so I went for a walk around the area surrounding the hotel. I found a fast-food restaurant, and after the waiter had translated the menu for me, I decided to have some chips (everything else on the menu seemed to involve meat in some form or another).

After roaming around a bit more, I went back to my room, read for a bit, and went to sleep.
